Since rekindling my passion for running in January 2023, I’ve encountered setbacks due to injuries on two occasions. Aspiring to run ten miles several times a week was overly ambitious. My enthusiasm led to a strained muscle in my right leg, rendering me unable to even walk for six months. I resumed consistent training around October, only to be met with the challenge of shin splints this time. However, I chose a wiser approach this time, taking a two to three-week hiatus to allow my body the necessary time to heal. This decision proved to be pivotal, as I’ve come to appreciate the importance of listening to my body as I age, a skill that feels akin to a superpower.
