I have always carried the motto “hills build character” – another way for saying do the hard thing. No one wants to run up hills, everyone loves the down hill.

In a race, hills serve as decisive moments, where there’s no luxury of time to recuperate. The inevitability of slowing down can be disheartening for many. But what I love about that is its an oppurtunity for you to triumph psychologically over adversaries. Even when I am exhausted, pushing past the crest of a hill and opening a small gap is enough to shatter the resolve of even the most seasoned runner.
