“The struggle ends when the gratitude begins.” – Neale Donald Walsch

One thing I have been working on is cultivating a mindset of gratitude. Initially, my focus was on expressing gratitude toward others – being more attentive during conversations, asking thoughtful follow-up questions, and making a conscious effort to acknowledge and appreciate the actions and contributions of people around me.

What I failed to think about until the other day (kudos to my wife for this thought) was gratitude towards myself. My attitude Saturday after my long run was filled with annoyance and frustration towards my hip hurting.

Not that it’s easy, and that’s no excuse, but I should appreciate the opportunity I have to run 9 miles. I got home safe, I got to spend time with my family afterwards, I felt accomplished, and I ran further than I initially thought I would.

By consciously focusing on the positives, I’ve come to realize that my injury is not severe, and I won’t have to endure another period of missed workouts. There was no need for the struggle and negativity.

Adopting an attitude of self-gratitude has not only helped me maintain a more positive outlook but has also allowed me to appreciate the journey, even when faced with minor setbacks or discomforts.
