Something I never noticed before when running is the impact of where you are running in comparison to where you normally run. I only ever thought of it in terms of altitude and temperature, but I learned these past few weeks that the running surface also matters.
Back home, I tend to have hills with a long, gradual incline or a quick, steep incline. Otherwise, the roads feel very flat. However, here in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, there are a lot of rolling hills. And wow, did this really make me hurt the first few times. I think my body was expecting an easy recovery or not as serious of an effort to get up some of the hills, but that did not happen.
Going forward, when considering potential training camps or races, I will need to take this into consideration.
