I feel like there are two types of people: those who track everything and those who track nothing. I fall into the former.

However, I used to be a part of the latter. I would run on intuition, guess my pace, didn’t worry about sleep, etc. Now you won’t catch me without my watch, tracking my sleep, steps, heart rate variability (HRV), etc. Sure, none of that stuff is perfect, but since I’m not a professional athlete with access to the latest tech and unlimited funds, it is good enough for me.

A few months back, I decided to set a step goal. Originally, I made it whatever my average was – around 7,500. As I started paying closer attention and factoring in running, I realized that goal was too low. So, I set it to a new standard of 11,000 – what a game-changer that was.

I now find myself motivated to move more throughout all aspects of my life. I park further away, get up more from my desk, and am more compelled to go on family walks, all to hit my daily step goal. It’s one of the simplest changes I have made in recent memory that’s had the biggest impact on my quality of life.
